Someone somewhere is…
buying an outfit for a first date
breaking up with a lover by text
soaking in a hot tub on the back deck
realizing their water just broke in the aisle at Target
hiking the Camino in the flaming Spanish sun
flying to Bangkok drinking first-class champagne
cutting the grass with a push mower
digging deep in dark dirt with a small spade
reading a dystopian novel
writing a love poem to the dog
struggling with history homework
donating blood for victims of a war
hooking a prayer mat at the kitchen table
lifting a crucifix from its nail in the hallway
working second shift at the abattoire
grooming the queen’s horses
punching dough for warm bread at supper
filing a restraining order in dark glasses
ending their life with a sleepy overdose
checking in to rehab for the last time
petting a purring cat in a darkening room
crafting a way of moving when morning brings light

Why I Like Gargoyle Magazine
Gargoyle Magazine has been described as a maverick publication that defies classifications like “underground” and “academic,” falling instead into interstitial spaces. Richard Peabody has been toiling away since 1976 to provide space to new/emerging writers and the otherwise overlooked with great success. The journal has a storied history, a diverse catalog of contributors, and I’m so proud to be one of them. Plus this magazine is a good read - you’ll find something unusual in every issue. Have a look at it here.
