Jo’s Mosaics

For me, mosaic practice feels a lot like writing poetry. Both are image-intensive. Both require patience. Mosaic art is for the eye, and poetry is art for the mind’s eye. Mosaics uses tone glass, and found objects, while poetry uses phrases and fragments of ideas, but both assemble small bits of things in ways that make sense and meaning out of what we feel, what we see, and what we can’t see. Both rely on lines and line breaks, and both have high hopes for engaging the imagination of the people they encounter!

Here’s a sampling of mosaics I’ve made over the years. You’ll find wall mosaics towards the top of this page, and further down the page, some views of more architecturally-oriented work.
Welcome! As you scroll down I hope you’ll find something to enjoy!
